FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Get answers to the questions you might be asking about our additional services.

How do you know if radon mitigation is needed for my home?

The soil conditions and topography are the best indicators of a radon problem. If your neighbors have a radon mitigation system, you probably need one as well. The best way to know for sure is to conduct a radon test, which is recommended for any home prior to occupancy. A testing device is placed in the home for 48 hours before it is sent to a lab for analysis. Our inspectors at Nest Egg Home Services are InterNACHI and NRPP Certified Radon Testers and can not only conduct the testing but can help you assess if mitigation is required or how well your existing system is performing.

How do Drones help in your inspections?

We did a lot of research to find drones that are both safe and provide the information needed to assess the condition of your roof, gutters, and chimney systems. Our drones use high-quality cameras to document trouble spots, such as missing flashing, damaged roofing tiles, deteriorating gutters, and more. We are fully insured and licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration as sUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft System) pilots.

How do you know if mold is present in a home?

If you have a family member who is sensitive to mold, or if someone in your home is experiencing allergy symptoms or breathing issues, we recommend getting an air sample. Additionally, if you own or are purchasing a home with a history of water leaks or flooding, your home inspector can take a sample and send it to the lab for testing. Our home inspector can take a spot sample of visible mold to determine the type of mold, or we can take a sample of the air to determine airborne mold spore concentrations. We offer a discounted price if you choose to purchase both sampling services.

How can you tell if there is lead or asbestos in my home?

The first indicator of whether or not lead or asbestos is present is the age of the home. Industry experts recommend lead testing on homes built before 1978 if renovations are planned or materials that may contain lead are exposed. Likewise with asbestos, testing is recommended for homes built prior to the 1980s. With the permission of the homeowner, a small sample of the paint or suspected asbestos materials is taken and sent to the lab to determine if lead is present.
